Artists Colin Merrin and Southsea Mudlark have collaborated on projects together for a few years now. ‘Mud and Ink’ connects two distinct artistic disciplines and how each artists’ marks inform and shape the work. This new work is a further development of a previous show, ‘The Perilous Nature of Bloody Mindedness’ at the Jack House Gallery in July 2022. This exhibition, at the Corner Collective Gallery is centred on Lynn’s thrown pieces and abstract painting alongside Colin’s drawn and painted decorative motifs. The exhibition also includes works on paper and canvas and reflects their interests in the relationship between functional pottery, figurative drawing and abstract mark making.
Colin Merrin is a mix media artist whose work is centred on the human form relying on a process of drawing and painting that uses memory alongside an intuitive approach and sense of absurdity. His work includes collage, text, paint and ink signalling events and referencing aspects of the human condition and zeitgeist.
He is an elected member of the Royal Watercolour Society and has exhibited his work both nationally and internationally. Colin’s large studio is based in Art Space Portsmouth.
Southsea Mudlark (Lynn Nicholls) has an MA in Related Arts having trained in 3D Design. She was previously a set designer for the BBC before embarking on a highly successful career in education.
Lynn’s has been working in ceramics for over 10 years and has sold to collectors in the UK and internationally. She creates pieces that are beautiful as well as functional. Lynn has a ceramic studio at Art Space.
