4pm – 6pm

Christmas in the city officially kick starts with the Christmas light switch-on! Taking place on the 18th of November between 4pm – 6pm, get in the festive spirit with appearances from pantomime stars from the Kings Theatre production of ‘Jack & The Beanstalk’ as well as performances from local school bands, theatre, and dance groups. We will also be joined by Love Island star Amy Hart and the Lord Mayor.

Alongside the live entertainment, enjoy a stroll around the Christmas market. Discover the beautifully decorated wooden cabins selling festive treats such as German sausages and glühwein, plus Christmas stockings, tree decorations and gifts. Just up the road in the old Sainsbury’s building you will find the festive edition of the We Create Market open for late night shopping and brimming with local makers, designers and artists.

While walking around you should spot some of the projections of We Shine Portsmouth’s impressive light installations on the buildings around the city centre. Don’t miss the glittering snowflake finale with the Christmas lights being switched on at 6pm in Commercial Road!
