We Rise

Artist: This New Ground

Location: St Mary's Church, Fratton Road

All three days, 5pm-9pm

This New Ground in collaboration with Jason Wilsher-Mills. Delivered in partnership with MAKE at Aldingbourne and Aspex Gallery.

We Rise Sculpture is a unique work of art celebrating learning-disabled people and artists across Portsmouth city. In September 2022, local learning-disabled artists joined forces with acclaimed digital artist, Jason Wilsher-Mills to co-create this giant, colourful, inflatable sculpture loudly celebrating the power and talents of people with learning disabilities. Imagine over a series of digital art workshops, the highly decorated sculpture which draws inspiration from Portsmouth’s historic coat of arms, features the landmarks and historic of the city, as well as drawings, self-portraits and words by project participants. It’s an expression of vibrancy, pride and the desire for visibility shared by the Portsmouth city’s leaning disabled residents.
